The desk is open. The address is the house. A form here prepares the letter; the manuscript still has to reach us.
What we want
Literary fiction, psychological thrillers, memoir, and narrative nonfiction. Books written after the lesson. A voice that does not explain its own irony. Work that could only have been written by someone who has already lived a while.
What we decline
Poetry, children’s books, screenplays, previously published books, and proposals that are mostly a platform. We are not looking for a generation explained to itself. We are looking for the story.
How to send
A query: who you are, what the book is, and the first ten pages in the letter or attached when you write us. Agented and unagented work are read in the same room. Simultaneous submissions are welcome if you tell us when it is no longer available.
How long
We are a small house and we read what arrives. If you have not heard in sixteen weeks, write once. A silence is not a philosophy. It is a queue.
